Christmas At Brodies

Christmas is just around the corner!

With Christmas just a month away, it’s the perfect time for another article on what’s going on at Brodies, Moffat’s award-winning eatery which is the perfect place for your special festive celebration.

Since our last blog post, Brodies hosted another successful Gin Tasting. This time we were pleased to welcome Selkirk Distillery, who chose Brodies to showcase their premium products. They’re a welcome addition to the burgeoning selection of gins available in Brodies, which are sure to become a favorite amongst Moffat’s discerning gin drinkers.

During the nine years that we’ve  been running Brodies we've won a  number of awards. We obtained and then retained an AA Rosette and two Michelin Knives and Forks. More recently, we were included in the Scotsman’s Top 10 Hidden Gems of Scotland, and were also awarded a Blue Ribbon for the quality of our food by The Good Food Guide. This was another proud moment for the hard working and dedicated team at Brodies.

So was the news that we’ve obtained two of the above awards, was like an early Christmas presents for everyone at Brodies, and made all our hard work during 2019 worthwhile. This included the AA Rosette, and our second  Blue Ribbon from The Good Food Guide.

Christmas Menu

Just like Santa and his Elves, Russell and his team of chefs have been hard at work preparing for Christmas. They have created a selection of delicious dishes that will feature on the Christmas 2019 Menu. It’s available between Wednesday the ‘4th’ to the ‘22nd of December, if pre-booked.  There’s a choice of two courses for  £18.95 or three courses £22.95 and both come with tea or coffee and mince pies. Just like all of the menus at Brodies, there’s something for everyone, with all tastes catered for on our Christmas menu.

There’s a choice of four starters including Smoked Chicken Salad and Smoked Haddock Pate, while the Homemade Soup and Mushroom and Chestnut Crostini are both suitable for vegetarians.

The main courses include traditional Christmas fare with a twist.  Kilted soldiers accompany the  Roast Crown Of Turkey which comes with sausage meat stuffing and roast gravy. For those looking for an alternative to that perennial festive favorite, there’s Oven Roasted Cod or Pan Fried Pork Cutlet with mustard mash, honey and apple puree. Vegetarians will enjoy the Broccoli and Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable Risotto that is served with houmous and cherry tomatoes.

For many traditionalists the perfect and only way to round off their festive meal will be with Old Fashioned Christmas Pudding and brandy sauce. However, two enticing alternatives are Chocolate and Nutella Cheesecake or Apple, Cinnamon and Maple Streusel Cake. There’s also Festive Cheese and Biscuits which is served with fruit chutney. After that there’s tea or coffee and mince pies which are truly irresistible.

A Christmas meal at Brodies is something to look forward to, and Danny, Russell and the rest of the team look forward to welcoming you during the festive season. Whether it’s a family meal or office party, Brodies is the perfect place to celebrate this Christmas.

December Gin Tasting

The Gin Club’s final Tasting of 2019 takes place on Friday the ‘6th’ of December. This month, we’re pleased to host another local distillery, The Oro Distilling Co which owns and operates the Dalton Distillery. It’s situated onside the village of Dalton, which is just twenty miles from Moffat.

Dalton Distillery, just like Brodies,  is a family riubusiness. It’s run by Ray Clynick , one of the founders, who is also the head distiller. He’s a scientist, who graduated from Heriot Watt International Centre For Brewing and Distilling, and applies scientific principles to creating the perfect gin. This was how gin used to be produced. Ray  has gone back to a  time : “when distilling was a science not a craft.”

At the Dalton Distillery, Ray creates gin that is based on a his scientific understanding of how different flavour compounds work and will interact with each other. Despite understanding the science, it’s far from easy to create a new gin from scratch. It’s a complicated process which is the result of months of hard work and experimentation by Ray.

Already Ray and his team at the Dalton Distillery have successfully produced two gins. The first was Oro which was followed by Oro V. They're Dalton Distillery’s flagship products and are already a favorite amongst connoisseurs of gin. However, if you of you’ve still to discover the delights of Oro and Oro V, the Gin Tasting at Brodies on the ‘6th’ of December is the perfect opportunity to do so. It’s an opportunity to hear more about what Ray is doing at the Dalton Distillery as he continues his quest for the perfect gin.

If you’re interested in the Gin Tasting why not make an evening of it, and book a table and enjoy the Christmas 2019 menu at Brodies,  Moffat’s award-winning eatery which, is the perfect place for a festive meal?
