April Gin of the Month: Harris

Our Gin of the Month for April is Harris Gin

One of Scotland’s most iconic gins, silky smooth with beautifully balanced flavours presented in a seriously stunning bottle.

Harris gin is a must-have in any Scottish gin collection and it’s one of the most asked for gins in Brodies.  So we are delighted to be hosting a Gin Tasting event with Harris Distillers next week.

What is it that makes this particular gin so iconic?  For us it’s all about a sense of place that’s been captured through the botanicals and the bottle design.

Harris gin is famed for its use of sugar kelp; a dark brown long seaweed that grows in abundance along the rocky coastline that surround the Isle of Harris. This imbues the gin with base umami note an authentic taste of the sea, balancing against the well-defined juniper with citrus and floral flavours coming through.

It’s the balance between these different flavours that make this gin special, dancing between bitter and sweet, gentle spice and soft floral with a long clean finish.

We tend to serve Harris gin at Brodies with a refreshing Fever Tree tonic but its refreshing flavour also makes it enjoyable as a neat spirit. We are particularly looking forward to seeing how Harris Distillers’ visiting gin expert, Claire Graham, creates and presents her unique Harris gin cocktail at our tasting event on the 5th April!

If you want to try it for yourself our Harris Gin Tasting Event takes place in our comfortable vintage gin lounge from 7.30pm-9.30pm on 5th April. It includes gin tasting, canapes and an exclusive Harris gin cocktail. The cost is £20 per person, or £15 for Gin Club members.
